CARROT - BERLICUM
CARROT - BERLICUM
Daucus carota
Berlicum is one of the most popular carrots in Europe.
It has nice solid 20cm long roots with little taper and a
blunt end. The roots rarely get woody and stay tender
with a rich flavour.
In warm zones seed can be sown at almost any
period of the year, although mid-summer sowings
are best avoided. The best months to sow in
temperate zones are July through to March and in
cold districts August to February. Deep sandy soil
or heavy soils with good structure allow roots to
grow and expand quickly.
Direct Sow by marking out shallow furrows 20-30cm
apart and sow seed 6mm deep. Cover the seed
with vermiculite or fine soil or seed raising mix.
Water gently and keep moist.
