COMMENTS...This is a vigorous vine that will even grow in poor soils. It is closely related to native tomatoes and is quite prolific. The fruit have a soft suede texture on the surface. A beautiful pink blush may develop as it ripens further it darkens, giving the name to the peach which it resembles in colour and in shape. The fruit have a mild flavour and will keep for long periods of time even when fully ripe. The plant is resistant to many tomato diseases; wilts, nematodes, mosaic virus and blossom end rot. Studies have shown that when eaten, or the juice drunk, then cholesterol may be lowered; in a similar way to oranges and orange juice but at a higher level. They make good plants for use in tubs.
ORIGIN Andes: Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. They grow in the mountains between 200-1,000m.
