ONION, NEBUKA - Bunching spring onion
ONION, NEBUKA - Bunching spring onion
Allium fistulosum
Nebuka is a non-bulbing mild flavoured, long stemmed
erect, spring onion. It is wonderful in salads and eaten
raw. It is a great salad vegetable because it does not
grow a large bulb. It makes a great border, is
attractive on the patio and is very early and fast
growing.
Nebuka is very slow to run to seed and can
be sown all year round. It generally takes7-10 weeks
for the stems to be ready to harvest. For continual
picking, ensure several sowings a few weeks apart.
To sow, make drills 25-30cm apart and place the
seeds just under the surface thinly along the row or in
clusters 20 cm apart. Liquid fertilser application will
be beneficial. The plant tolerates both full sun or a
partly shaded position that is enriched and has a
well drained soil. It will give good results. It has an
erect manner which makes it always look fresh.
This makes it ideal for display at Farmers Markets.
