This variety is most suitable for growing in southern areas and is tolerant of very cool conditions. It has a classic onion taste that is hard to beat. This is a highly regarded pungent, long keeping, round, sometimes slightly flattened variety that is well suited to most areas south of Sydney. It is ideally suited to use as a cooking onion and the very longkeeping qualities are highly regarded. It is a mid season variety. Sow from early July until late August or early September. Onions like well limed soil rich in organic matter. Dig trenches 10 -15 cm wide, 5cm deep and then add fertiliser along the side of the trenches. Refill the trench and sow the seed in the centre of the previous trench. Space the seedlings approxim ately 10cm apart, with a space of 30 cm between each row. The onions will be ready for pulling and storing approximately 6 to 7 months from sowing the seed.
