Tagetes patula nana

Red Cherry is an early flowering, bushy, dwarf marigold with

mahogany red, double flowers with golden edges. Marigolds

are summer flowering annuals best sown in spring or summer

because they prefer the warm weather and dislike frosts.They

are attract parasitic insects to help protect your garden, and

are excellent for suppressing nematodes. They make an

excellent companion plant and also one of the best

suppresants of twitch or couch grass. Their petals are added

to salads, and add dash to a variety of dishes. The leaves

can be eaten and do not taste as strong as they smell. They

can be used to colour cheeses and butter and added to teas.

Marigolds herbal uses centre around skin conditions and

injuries.  It is a well regarded companion plant and a

deterrent of nematodes, white fly and some weevils

and beetles .

Sow the seed in punnets for transplanting into the

garden or scatter seed shallowly in clusters about 25-30cm

apart and thin later if necessary. Keep the soil moist and

free from weeds until the plants are established.
