Korean mint is a delicious liquorice mint flavoured plant which grows to 1m
in height. It has a square stem and grows mostly anwhere but prefers lightly
shaded, damp spots in the garden. It has high levels of essential oil which
are slightly weakened if grown in less than full sun. It is esteemed for its
medicinal uses and considered one of the 50 fundamental Chinese herbal
plants. It was traditionally used to relieve nausea, vomiting and poor
appetite. Young leaves can be picked and used in salads, drinks, vinegars
and as a garnish for vegetables, turning a bland dish into something exciting

The seed is sown in early spring and because it is very fine, a good idea
when sowing it is to mix the seed with vermiculite or dried sand. This will
allow a more even distribution of seed. Sow seed on the surface of
seedling trays, and tamp down. Moisten the mixture and keep moist until
the seedlings emerge. Seed is fast germinating and plants are not frost
tender when mature. Plant into pots or a container when large enough.
