BASIL - GREEN TORINO, Sweet Genovese type

Ocimum basilicum

DIRECTIONS FOR SPROUTING

Basil seeds tend to stick together when soaked

and are best treated as a Micro-green and grown

in a tray or styrofoam box. Use any shallow

seedling tray and add good soil or seedling mix.

Scatter the seed thickly over the surface and

gently press your seed into the soil and keep

them damp by placing a cover of glass or plastic

over the surface until germination occurs. You

will need to spray them regularly to make sure

they do not go dry before germinating. Gently

pull the seedling stems out of the soil when they

have grown to 4-6cm high and then wash any

soil from them before serving. Alternatively you

can cut the stems just above the soil surface and

treat as a microgreen. They can be used in salads,

sandwiches, pita fills, tacos, garnishes, dips and

lightly cooked food such as omelettes and frittatas.

Basils are valued for antooxidant, antibacterial,

antiseptic, analgesic, antiviral, antispasmodic,

digestive, and tonic properties.
