CABBAGE - WA WA TSAI
Brassica pekinensis
This very difficult to find, small sized, "Chinese Cabbage" has a
barrel shape, yellow inner leaves and green and white outer leaves
It has tender, sweet tasting leaves which wrap a solid 500-600g
head that stores well when harvested if kept cool. It has a superb
delicate flavour and the growing of this variety makes it all worth
while once you have had the opportunity to taste it. In cool areas it
should be sown in late summer for winter harvest and in autumn
for spring harvest. In all other areas it can be sown all year round.
It will mature 55-60 days from transplant. These Cabbages are
fast maturing when very young and are best planted outdoors
directly in the garden

1m apart or when grown for picking as salad greens they can be
planted very much closer. Wa wa tsai likes alkaline soils, rich
nutrient loads, well limed, manured and watered.
