CABBAGE - RED ACRE
CABBAGE - RED ACRE
Brassica oleracea Capitata group
Red Acre produces compact plants with small
15cm round heads of good appearance and
excellent flavour. It is split resistant, is one of the
best for salads and coleslaw. The compact heads
are perfect for small households. It has a wonderful
appearance when cut and sliced. It is terrific for
patio gardening.
Cabbage is closely
related to broccoli, cauliflower, and brussels
sprouts and like these other members of the
Brassica genus, requires a fertile soil with good
moisture-holding capacity. Cabbage does not
generally do well in hot weather, the best success
comes with end of summer through to winter
sowings. Try to keep the pH level above 6.0 with
the addition of dolomite, woodash or lime. A full
sun position is advantageous.
