Lactuca sativa

This hard to find loose leafed lettuce has crinkly soft leaves with a vivid chartreuse colouring. it is a non heading variety of lettuce that you can pick leaves for your salad from in less than a month from planting. The plant can be fully matured in 50 days from planting. It is a deliciously flavoured variety with succulent, soft, very crinkled, leaves. The whole plant grows to 45 cm in diameter. This variety is well adapted to a wide range of climates and is slow to bolt and adaptable to all regions. Lettuces generally like to be grown in mild conditions and do not like hot weather. They should be sown often to ensure a continuous supply. Sow the seeds very shallowly and rake lighlty. Keep the soil moist and you will be rewarded with lovely salad greens. Any dryness will result in bitter leaves and bolting will result.

Sow in all months in mild areas and cease sowing during mid winter in cold areas. Cease sowing during hot conditions or whenever they can be expected to arise. Lettuces grow well under trees where they receive dappled shade.
