Green Iceberg is a very reliable medium green solid heading type of Iceberg lettuce that performs well in late winter spring plantings. It also does well in cool dry conditions. It does best with day temperatures below 24C and night temperatures above 4C but tolerates much wider conditions. Hot, sunny, or dry conditions may cause the plants to turn bitter and produce a flower shoot, a process known as bolting. This lettuce will grow in light shade to full sun. Sow the seed on the surface in shallow furrows, or cover lightly or press them firmly into the soil and the keep surface moist. Plant all year round in warm temperate areas. Continual sowing fom early Spring to midsummer will ensure a continual crop. In warmer areas, avoid sowing during very hot weather. It does well from soil enrichment and the application of liquid fertiliser. This will encourage tenderness. Keep well watered for best flavour.
