This variety has been developed for its beautiful dark red cos type head. The head itself makes a very attractive loose erect bunch of leaves which can be harvested as they mature. The whole head can be picked in as little as 65 - 70 days. Cos not only like cool conditions but they are very tolerant of warm conditions when they arrive. They should be sown often to ensure a continuous supply.
Sow the seeds very shallowly and rake in lighlty. Keep the soil moist for the continued life of the plant and you will be rewarded with lovely salad greens. Any dryness will result in bitter leaves and bolting will result. Sow in all months in mild areas and cease sowing during mid winter in cold areas. and during hot conditions or whenever they can be expected to arise. Lettuces grow well under trees where they receive dappled shade.
