CUCUMBER - SWEET PICKLES
CUCUMBER - SWEET PICKLES
Cucumis sativus
This great little plant is compact and does not need much in the way of support such as trellising. The fruit are crisp in texture with solid flesh and straight and cylindrical. They grow to 10-13cm and only 3 cm diameter making them ideal for pickling. When picked young they make wonderful gherkins. Their inside flesh is apt to be 6C cooler than their skin. The seeds should be sown 1-1.5cm deep, 40-50cm apart, in rows 1-1.5m apart. Sow the seeds from October to January in Cool and Temperate areas. From August to March in the Subtropics and March to September in the Tropics
