STOCKS - VIRGINIAN STOCKS

Virginian Stock flowers are popular as edible flowers because they

are ready for picking for much of the year, they smell delicious, and

make an attractive addition to your salads and lightly cooked meals

This very popular and attractive cottage garden favourite is a low

growing annual with elliptical grey-green leaves.   The incredibly

profuse and beautiful flowers come in shades of rose, lavender and

pink with the occasional white flower all on the one plant.  The

flowers are sought after for their lovely, sweet fragrance.  The Virginian

Stock's flowering period can range from Spring through Summer and

well into Autumn.  Sow the seed 5 mm deep in well prepared soil, or

indoors ready for planting anytime from late Summer to Autumn.  Keep

the soil moist until established.  They often flower as early as 6 weeks

after sowing. These are one of the easiest flowers to grow in the garden
