Calendula officinalis

These are double blooms in a wide range of colours. They grow  to 30cm.

Calendula flowers are a familiar sight in cottage gardens and in colourful

window boxes. The petals are a great addition to salads and often used

in stirfries and even added to muffins.  The have a myriad of uses in the

kitchen and also very popular in the garden as companion plants and as

an attractant to those parasitic insects that prey upon garden pests. It is

also useful for eradicating couch grass and or twitchgrass. 

The plant grows to a height of 30cm with a 15cm spread. 

It grows best in a warm sunny position with moist but

well drained soil. Propagate from seed by placing premium seed

raising mix in a pot, sprinkle the seeds on top and tamp down.

Cover them with soil and keep the seed raising mixture moist.

Once seedlings reach a height of 3-4cm, plant them out into the garden

Liquid fertilise as required. Dead head spent flowers to prolong flowering.
