CARROT - ATOMIC RED

Daucus carrota

This variety is shorter than the Western Red type
which makes it great for harder soils. It is more
uniform and less brittle and earlier maturing, at
approximately 14-18 weeks after sowing. Root
dimensions 22 x 3.5 cm. They are a rich red

In warm zones seed can be sown at almost any
period of the year, although mid-summer sowings
are best avoided. The best months to sow in
temperate zones are July through to March and in
cold districts August to February. Deep sandy soil
or heavy soils with good structure allow roots to
grow and expand quickly.
Direct Sow by marking out shallow furrows 20-30cm
apart and sow seed 6mm deep. Cover the seed
with vermiculite or fine soil or seed raising mix.
Water gently and keep moist.
