SPINACH-PERPETUAL

This spinach has good heat tolerance and grows through the summer in most areas. It has large oval shaped smooth leaves, and does not go to bolt as quickly as some other varieties. The plant has good vigour with upright growth that is resistant to downy mildew. The leaves are suitable for baby leaf and full leaf production. Also called Leaf Beet as it is actually a type of silverbeet but without the prominent midrib. This spinach has good heat tolerance and grows throughout the summer in most areas. Can be grown in partial shade. Does best in free draining soils with compost mixed in. Apply plenty of water as with any leafy crops. Apply liquid fertiliser to ensure lush foliage. Sow seeds from late summer to early winter. Early spring sowings can be made in cooler climates. Plant 2 to 3 seeds every hole spaced approx 30cm apart.
