Scarlet Runner is a 2.5m tall vine that produces very straight long pods with 5-7 large seeds. This are variety of runner bean is the most commonly grown of all the runner bean varieties . The flowers are an attractive scarlet colour. This is a perrenial variety of bean. Eat them pods and all when picked young or save the seeds alone for winter stews. Direct sow seeds 15-20cm apart in rows that are 45cm apart or prefferably against a wall. Gently push the seed into the soil, cover lightly and water. Poor germination generally reflects over watering and rotting of seed. Beans are a nitrogen fixing crop. Sow in Spring to Summer in a well drained, full sun position. Make sure soil is not too acidic.
