BEAN, AQUADULCE - Broad Bean
BEAN, AQUADULCE - Broad Bean
Vicia faba.
This is a hardy Heirloom variety of Broad Bean with a nutty flavour.
It is an early, prolific cropper of tall plants with very long, well filled pods.
The bean plants are nitrogen fixing in your soil so they can also be used as a green manure.
Maturity is reached in approx. 90 - 120 Days.
This is a very tall variety, prone to lodging, so staking or fencing of the plants is essential.
Soak the seeds for 2-4 hrs. in a dilute seaweed solution which will help to speed up germination.
Direct sow into your garden about 3-5cm deep and about 15-20cm apart
in rows 20-40cm apart or 15-20cm apart in all directions across a wide bed.
In cold areas plant all year round except for maybe Jan-Feb.
In Temperate areas plant from Mar-Oct.
In subtropical and Tropical areas from Mar-Jun.
Plant into damp soil and do not water again until leaves appear.
