ZUCCHINI - ROUND

Cucurbita pepo

This fast growing zucchini is a large producer of lovely yellow mottled green-grey fruit best harvested when the fruit is about 15 cm in diameter. The fruit have attractive smooth skins. Ready to harvest in 55-60 days. This variety is ideal for stuffing and serving dished up in the whole zucchini straight from the oven. It is also great for general cooking. Sow seed directly after last frost, as warmth in the soil is required for best germination. The seed can be started indoors a few weeks before planting after the last frost of the season but does best when directly sown in the garden. All zucchinis will tend to produce mostly male flowers if the seedlings are left to develope more than two true leaves before transplanting into the garden. The more preparation you give your soil with rich organic matter, to ensure high nitrogen levels, the better you will be rewarded with fruit. Planting in full sun, keeping the soil moist but not wet, and ensuring good drainage will give the best results.
