This pumpkin is an improvement on the normal butternut in that it has an extended, thicker neck that gives a high ratio of flesh to seed cavity and although a few days later to develope seems to have a better flavour than the alraedy supremely flavoured Waltham Butternut. It is a deliciously flavoured variety with thin, pale skin and good rich coloured flesh. It is Ideal for cooking whole, great baked and good for everyday use. It has a delicous nutty flavour, and manageable vines The fruit are tapered to the stem, pear shaped, and a lovely mustard yellow colour. They mostly, are ready for harvest in 16-18 wks. and have deep orange flesh with reasonable keeping quality. Sow seeds in early Summer in cold regions, throughout spring in warm zones and all year round in subtropical climates. Direct sow into the garden. Place several seeds 2.5cm deep in wide, hollow, saucer shaped depressions 20cm deep. 'Hill up' excavated soil around the rim and leave 2m between hills. If planted in rows leave 1.5 m around each plant.
