This spinach has good heat tolerance and grows through the summer in most areas. It has large oval shaped smooth leaves, and does not go to bolt as quickly as some other varieties. The plant has good vigour with upright growth that is resistant to downy mildew. The leaves are suitable for baby leaf and full leaf production. Ruby Red is a beautiful rich crimson stemmed silverbeet that has an excellent mild flavour . It is rich in Iron and many other vitamins and minerals. The stems and leaves make a great colourful addition to stirfries and even salads. All of the plant parts are edible. It is an easy vegetable to grow in the home garden, It gives an extremely colourful display in the edible garden and can hold its own in the ornamental garden as well. It is well suited to all climates, although it does best when you avoid growing it in very hot months it will cope well enough with mildly hot weather.
Plant seeds Sep-Mar in Cold areas, Sep-May in Temperate areas, anytime in Subtropics and Feb-Sep in the full Tropics Soak the silverbeet seeds a few hours before sowing, as they only absorb water slowly. Sow thinly in drills 30-40cm apart and 12mm deep. Cover the seeds with vermiculite. Cover lightly with mulch Keep damp with light watering until seeldings emerge. (approx. 2 weeks). Have a year round supply with 2 or 3 sowings between Spring & Autumn.
