SILVERBEET-RAINBOW CHARD

SILVERBEET - Rainbow With red, pink, golden orange, and yellow stems set of by the dark green foliage this beautiful mix of coloured stem silverbeet can be grown in the flower garden and not be out of place. It makes a great colourful addition to stirfries and even salads. All of the plant parts are edible. It is an easy vegetable to grow in the home garden and is high in vitamins. It gives an extremely colourful display in the edible garden and can hold its own in the ornamental garden as well. It is well suited to all climates, although it does best when you avoid growing it in very hot months. it will cope well enough with mildly hot weather. Plant Sep-Mar in Cold areas, Sep-May in Temperate areas, anytime in Subtropics and Feb-Sep in the full Tropics Soak the silverbeet seeds a few hours before sowing, as they only absorb water slowly. Sow thinly in drills 30-40cm apart and 12mm deep. Cover the seeds with vermiculite. Cover lightly with mulch and keep damp with light waterings until seedlings emerge in approximately 2 weeks. Have a year round supply with 2 or 3 sowings between Spring & Autumn. Rainbow Silverbeet has varicoloured (red, orange, gold and yellow) ribbed stems supporting large, green, crinkly leaves. All these parts are edible. Grows basically the same as fordhook giant, only more colourful. All climate zones are suitable to grow silverbeet, although it is best to avoid growing in very hot or frosty cold months.
