CALENDULA - PACIFIC BEAUTY MIX

Calendula officinalis

Pacific Beauty Mix is made of large double and semi double flowers with

rich colours.. Calendula flowers are a familiar sight in cottage gardens

and in colourful window boxes. The petals are a great addition to salads,

often used in stirfries and even added to muffins.  The have myriad of

uses in the kitchen.  It is also very popular in the garden as companion

plants and as an attractant to those parasitic insects that prey upon

garden pests.  It is also useful for eradicating couch grass and or twitch

grass.  The plant grows to a height of 40cm with a 15cm spread.  The

flowers have double petals and have a raised yellow centre. It grows

best in a warm sunny position with moist but well drained soil.

Propagate from seed by placing premium seed raising mix in a pot,

sprinkle the seeds on top and tamp down. Cover them with soil and

keep the seed raising mixture moist. Once seedlings reach a height

of 3-4cm, plant them out into the garden Liquid fertilise as required.

Dead head spent flowers to prolong flowering.
