Capsicum annuum
Sweet Red is a capsicum that has heavy yields
of 10 cm long by 7.5 cm wide sweet fruit. The fruit
have thick walls and turn from dark green to red
when mature, are very sweet and have more
vitamin C than an orange. This variety is excellent
for salads, stuffing, or baking. Plants reach 70cm
in height and take 74 days to produce ripe fruit.
Plant Capsicum seed .0.5-1cm deep spaced
50-60 cm apart in rows 1.0-1.5 m apart. The soil
should be warm, over 18 C.
Plant into the garden in:-
Tropical areas ..Anytime
Subtropical areas..August to March
Mild Temperate areas..August to December
Cold Temperate areas..September to November
In Temperate areas it is best to plant using
seedlings prepared a month to six weeks earlier.
Capsicum like alkaline soil and do best in gardens
with dolomite or wood-ash added to the soil.
