Tropaeolum spp

This compact, mounding, nasturtium has dark, greyish
green leaves and brilliant, velvety crimson, long-spurred
flowers reaching to around 30-35 cm. The plants
produce prolific amounts of flowers. The flowers and
leaves can be used to make a fabulous tasty
Champagne vinegar. This variety does well when grown in
shade. Edible leaves, stems, buds, flowers and seeds.
The leaves can be added to the salad mix or placed
between slices of bread for a zesty sandwich. The stems
can be cut and added to stirfries or salad mixes where
they look like bean shoots .This is an old fashioned
variety. Nasturtiums will grow in a wide range of
soils, but they do best in moderately fertile soils in which
plants produce less foliage and flower more prolifically.
They prefer open sunlight and rather dry conditions
though they will still thrive in partial shade. Sow a few
seeds in clumps 20-30 cm apart. Thinning is rarely
needed. Sow in Spring through to Autumn.

THE LEAVES ARE GREAT IN SALADS AND ALSO IN SANWICHES ...FOR THAT ADDED TANG THE FLOWERS BULK OUT A SALAD MIX THAT MIGHT OTHERWISE STICK TOGETHER..THEY MAKE THE SALAD MIX LOOK JUST BEAUTIFUL...TASTY TOO
