In southern Europe the markets have many stalls which are piled high with the aromatic plant stems The stems are hollow and make fantastic straws for sipping cool drinks and fruit juices. It makes a wonderfully flavoured potato salad. Unlike the usual thick stemmed celery it does not need to be planted in trenches, hilled or blanching.

It makes a wonderfully flavoured potato salad. Unlike the usual thick stemmed celery it does not need to be planted in trenches, hilled or blanching. Sow the seeds very shallowly in deep rich soil and keep moist until harvest. Thin the plants to about 20cm apart in all directions and pick individual leaves or cut the whole plant. Planting should be done from September to December in Cool and Temperate areas and from March to September in Tropical and Subtropical areas.
