The seeds can stay viable for 40 years in the soil and up to 19 years in the packet. Plant thickly to encourage a more upright growth habit. Plant by spreading the seed over the soil surface and lightly watering them into the soil. They germinate better with overnight soaking prior to planting. Keep the bed moist until the plants are established. The plants mature very quickly and look quite attractive with their reddish stems.
