RAPINI

Brassica rapa

Rapini is a fast growing, early maturing plant that has edible leaves used in recipes that have spinach and silverbeet as the main ingredient. The flower heads develop very early. The small broccoli heads are highly sought after for bunching as Broccolini. They have a flavour described as nutty and fully flavoured. It is used widely in Meditteranian cuisine. The plant grows vigorously, matures quickly and produces lots of heads. The entire plant, bar the roots can be eaten. The young stalks and flowers are very tender and excellent for stir-fries. They can be eaten raw and only need very light cooking for best results. They are all great with a garlic sauce no matter how they are cooked. This variety was developed for its ability to cope with warm conditions.

The seeds can be sown anywhere in Australia at any time of the year. They mature within 3-5 weeks. Plant seeds 0.5-1.0 cm deep, 5-10cm apart and thin for cooking as they grow larger. For a continuous supply plant in succession as they mature very quickly.
