Dactylis glomerata

Cat grass is very easy to grow. It grows to about 15 cm in height, and cats are naturally attracted to it. It provides essential nutrients and is a great digestive aid. Dactylis glomerata or CATGRASS is a common species of grass in the genus Dactylis native throughout most of Europe, temperate Asia, and northern Africa. It occurs from sea level in the north of its range, to as high as 4,000 m altitude in the south of its range in Pakistan. It is widely used for hay and as a forage grass It grows in dense perennial tussocks to 20-40 centimetres tall, with leaves 20-50 cm long and up to 1.5 cm broad, and a distinctive tufted triangular flowerhead 10-15 cm long, which may be either green or red- to purple-tinged (usually green in shade, redder in full sun), turning pale grey-brown at seed maturity. The spikelets are 59 mm long, typically containing two to five flowers. It has a characteristic flattened stem base which distinguishes it from many other grasses Seed is easy to grow and can be started at most times of the year in most areas. Make sure the grass is sown very shallowly and kept moist until the plants are established.
