STOCKS - AMERICAN BEAUTY
American Beauty is a tall carmine red coloured flower with great
appeal. Stocks are one of the oldest known garden flowers. Sold
commercially in Roman days they were popular because they
not only had large spikes of beautiful edible flowers but they have a
gloriously strong scent too. They are cold hardy annuals with
grey green foliage and tall upright columns of flowers which
open from the bottom of the stem. These stems can be 50-75cm
long and smell of cinnamon, clove and other spicy aromas.
Historically they have been planted near doorways, paths, patios
and windows so that the scent drifts inside the house.
